Bone Cancer to Boston Marathon: The Power of Outrageous Goal Setting The common wisdom is that goals should be SMART – Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely. In this presentation, you will learn that sometimes being OUTRAGEOUS is better than being SMART. Carmen Fontana was a vegetable-loving, marathon-running, working-mom-of-littles when she finally went to see a sports medicine doctor about what she thought was a nagging knee injury. Instead, at thirty years of age, she learned a rare form of bone cancer had overtaken her left leg. Overwhelmed by the prospect of months of chemo, radiation, and rehab, she needed something outrageously wild to focus her attention away from the tough days ahead. So she decided to qualify for the Boston Marathon – cancer leg be damned. In this presentation, Carmen will teach you how to ignore “achievable and realistic” goal-setting in favor of getting outrageous!
